Dear Willow Grove Chapter Members:


Once again, we are planning to hold the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival in the fall.  This activity has always been successful and popular with both students and parents. This is a performance opportunity and motivational event rather than a competition.


We no longer accept handwritten Application forms, for those teachers who are planning to send students to Local WG DSPFestival please send e-mail request by September 1 to oltazee@comcast.net and we will e-mail starting on September 2 link with instruction to register online. Please also give us idea how many students will represent your studio at Local DSPFestival.


Online registration for Local Willow Grove DSPFestival begins September 15 and ends on midnight September 29, 2019. Only teachers may enter students for Local DSPF online. No emails or US Mail Application forms will be accepted.


All students entry fees for the Local DSPF - $40 - are non-refundable.

For students who wants to participate in the local festival, teachers should submit Application form (ON LINE, we no longer accept handwritten forms)

Teachers should collect $40 local entrance fee from each student and submit ONE check for all students payable to NDVC-PMTA for the total amount. In other words, if you have 5 students enrolled in the Local DSF teacher should sent in ONE check for the local fees (5 x $40 = $200). All student entry fees are non-refundable.

Solo Piano Repertoire Requirements: All piano selections must be a minimum of sixteen (16) measures without repeats, including elementary level students. Simplications, or arrangements are NOT acceptable, unless the original composer is the arranger (i.e. Liszt transcriptions, Brahms Waltzes.) Unacceptable repertoire includes arrangements of movie, Broadway or pop songs, hymns, organ literature, etc.; simplified or partial versions of classical repertoire–anything not originally composed for piano solo.


Two (2) memorized pieces of a contrasting nature by different composers, preferably from two (2) different eras, in the more advanced levels starting with level 3 (Please use Faber and Faber as a standard for the example of level)


Note: Dear colleagues, please reserve Beethoven's “Fur Elise” and Minuet in G Major from BWV Anh. 114 by Pezold (D gabcd g g) for your own studios recitals.


Every student who receives a Superior or Excellent rating will be eligible to play in the Local Honors Recital and receive a trophy.  The student, or his/her teacher, must be present at Honors Recital to receive a trophy. No trophy will be mailed out after the event. Each teacher is responsible for keeping track of the number of years that a student has participated in the Festival. No adjustments will be made during the event or after we receive applications. We started awarding trophies in 2009, so the 2019 Festival is year 11 (eleven)

ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS

Performance Requirements

Musical Scores: One original copy of the music must be provided for the judges. Photocopies are strictly prohibited.

Length of time: Performances may not exceed ten (10) minutes. NO REPEATS PLEASE.

     Solo: Two (2) memorized pieces of a contrasting nature by different composers,

     preferably from two (2) different eras in the more advanced levels starting with level 3.


     Theory Test

     Any student who has passed level 8A and 8B is exempt from taking the test.

     Students need not progress to a new level every year.

     Ensemble students also performing as soloists will take only one test.

     Ensemble students performing as an ensemble only must take a test, at of the least experienced member of the group.

     Test re-takes are not permitted.

     Students are not permitted to see or take the test before the designated test date.

     Performance level and theory level need not match.  The teacher is to decide what level is appropriate for

     the student.


     Teacher

     The teacher must have paid local, state and national dues prior to the Local Association's deadline for submitting applications.

     Teachers may belong to more than one Local Association, but students may perform at only one local event.


     Student

     Any piano, vocal or instrumental student of a PMTA member may participate in the DSPF Preliminary Auditions. Participating

     students must reside in Pennsylvania. Any age may participate, including adults. Students in ensembles who are not students

     of members may participate for an extra fee, and the ensemble must be coached by the PMTA member.


1.     Teachers are REQUIRED to assist on the day of the local (Evaluations and Honors Recital). Help will be needed in the following

     areas: registration table, theory room, monitoring, and results room.

2.     Students and families are not permitted to bring food/drinks or eat/drink on the premises of Evaluations or Honors Recital Venues.

     Teachers and judges will have a room available to have lunch or a snack.  

3.     Students are expected to wear appropriate attire: NO JEANS, SNEAKERS, T-SHIRTS, SHORTS OR HATS –THESE ARE

     NOT APPROPRIATE AND WILL NOT IMPRESS JUDGES.

STATE


The 2019 State PMTA Solo and Ensemble Showcase Recitals and the PMTA Keystone Concerto Festival will be held on NOVEMBER 23, 2019 AT PENN STATE.


Registration & Deadlines


The online registration window is October 1, 2019 through 3:00 PM EST on Friday, October 25, 2019.


Only teachers may enter students for State Showcase Recitals online. No emails or US Mail forms will be accepted.


All student entry fees for the DSPF are non-refundable.


Fees & Payments


LOCAL


     Check with your Local Festival Chair for the student entry fee for your Local Preliminary Audition.

     Each Local Association must submit a $2.00 fee per student to PMTA to support PMTA events and the Dorothy Sutton Fund of

     the MTNA Foundation.


STATE


     Fees are $13.00 per solo student, $20.00 per ensemble.

     Teacher will pay online using Paypal or credit card ONLY. No checks will be accepted.

     Any member of an ensemble who is not a student of a PMTA member must pay an additional $10 per non-member student.

     Teachers participating in the State event must attend and volunteer. If the teacher cannot attend, there is a $30.00 substitution

     fee which must be included with the registration fees. Parents may not be substitutes. A $20 penalty fee will be invoiced after the

     event to teachers failing to notify the state festival chair at least 48 hours in advance of the state event that their attendance

     status has changed.

     Student must perform and be present to receive medal and certificate.


All student entry fees for the DSPF are non-refundable!

Certificate Reissues: If the request for a reissued certificate is due to the requesting teacher's error, there is a $5 per certificate charge payable in advance. If an error was made by PMTA the certificate will be reissued at no cost.


State Showcase Recital Schedule

The state recital schedule will be emailed to participating teachers and posted on this website within ten (10) days of the close of registration.


State Contact Information

Direct all questions regarding Local Preliminary Auditions to your Local Association DSPF Chair. Parent should not contact the State Chair. All participating teachers must have an email address to enroll students, as all communications will be done via email. All performance information will be sent by email and posted on website.
